2020 Market Review (Quarterly)
The 4th quarter market returns presented investors with a positive outlook and rewarded discipline investors as markets looked past the economy’s short-term hurdles all while ending one of the craziest years in remembrance.
The 4th quarter market returns presented investors with a positive outlook and rewarded discipline investors as markets looked past the economy’s short-term hurdles all while ending one of the craziest years in remembrance. Both stock and bond market returns were positive for the year. Emerging Markets (+19.7%) led all geographies in returns while domestic small cap value stocks (+33.36%) led the sector returns. Both small cap and value led in all geographies (US, Developed and Emerging Markets) and is certainly a change from the leadership we have seen in growth in all geographies.
Bonds remained positive but returned less than 1% for the quarter. Changes in government bond interest rates were mixed while longer term bonds generally outperformed shorter-term bonds in non-US developed markets.
